Many of you have probably heard of the term SEER before, but do you know what it means?  SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio.  According to the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute, SEER is a measurement of cooling efficiency.  It is the rating of efficiency a unit delivers, by determining the amount of energy needed to produce an overall British Thermal Unit (BTU) of cooling capacity over the course of a cooling season.  SEER ratings typically range from 13 to 23, with the highest numbers indicating the most efficient units that offer the most energy savings.  It’s important to know that the higher the SEER rating, the higher efficiency, resulting in lower operating costs.  On the other hand, the lower the SEER rating, the lower efficiency, resulting in higher operating costs.  Invest in a higher SEER unit today and save a lot in the long run. You won’t be sorry!

North American Technician Excellence (NATE) just announced it is extending certification for HVAC technicians called to active duty. As soon as NATE-certified military service members deploy, their NATE certification is postponed until they return home. NATE is extending certification for HVAC technicians serving active duty to guarantee that the technician comes home with the same qualifications as he or she left with. When the technician returns home from active duty, he/she will receive all new NATE certification documents. According to NATE, the expiration date of their certification will be extended to reflect their time in service.

“All of us at NATE feel that this policy is critically important for our NATE-certified technicians active in the military, and it is the least we can do to support our troops,” said Patrick Murphy, vice president of certification for NATE. “The last thing these honorable and esteemed professionals need to worry about is the status of their certification. By stopping the clock on their NATE certification, we aim to do our small part in helping these technicians pick up where they left off when they return from serving our country.”

HVAC technicians called to active duty can simply contact NATE when they return home to extend their certification and obtain their new documents. NATE certified technicians are thrilled by the news and are pleased with NATE’s gesture to extend certification.

No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.  ~Proverb

Thank goodness for that! With Spring comes blue skies, warmer days, longer nights and…..spring cleaning?

That’s right…spring cleaning. What do we have to do with spring cleaning? There’s never a better time to get your AC in shape for the Spring and Summer months! We have complied a list of things you can do to prep your HVAC for the change in seasons.

  1. First and easiest thing to do? Change your filters! This isn’t just for Spring but now is a good time to do it!
  2. Pop your head into your attic to see if your ducts are sealed properly. How would you know? If you have the air on and it’s cold in your attic, you have a leak.
  3. Take a look at your condenser unit outside and see if it looks clean and free of debris that might stop the blades from running. During the winter leaves or dirt can get in there from the weather and they need to be removed.
  4. Make sure your exterior pipes are still properly insulated and protected from the weather. They can take a beating over the Winter months.

Anything else we would prefer you hire a professional to do. At Casteel Heating and Cooling, we are running a Sring/ Summer tune up special. For only $79 we perfrom the following tests and inspections:

  • Test Thermostat Operation / Calibration
  • Inspect Blower Belts
  • Lubricate Blower Motor
  • Lubricate Blower Wheel
  • Visual Inspection of Indoor Coil
  • Check Temperature Differential
  • Inspect Electrical Disconnect Wires
  • Inspect Electrical Component Wires

We needed an entire heating and A/C system replaced. Everyone we dealt with was incredibly helpful, professional, and friendly. We received good advice on what type of unit we would need, and the installation was quick and neat. Wayne and Joe are awesome.

Wonderful Service
I purchased a home last April. Casteel installed two new HVAC systems. The service and product were superb! I recently decided to have some duct work changed. Casteel came out and changed around things to my complete satisfaction! Tom Taylor is a wonderful resource, and a great salesman! My original install was completed by Dennis and crew. My new ductwork changes were completed by Wayne and Tony. I can not effectively describe how wonderful these guys are! I wish I had written a review on my original install, b/c they were fantastic. But, Wayne and Tony really went above and beyond on my recent ductwork changes! I know they ran into some major challenges in my attic/crawlspace. But, these guys did not let anything get in the way of completing the job correctly! No shortcuts here! I am completely satisifed with a job well done! I recommend these guys to everyone!
GREAT JOB CASTEEL! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Casteel Heating and Cooling

A heat pump is a two part system that handles the heating and cooling in your home. There is an air handler that is located inside your home and a unit that is located outside of your home. This is not unlike a central air conditioning system.

The difference is that a heat pump moves heat as opposed to generating heat. For instance, in the winter, a heat pump “moves” the heat from the outside to the inside. During the summer it does the opposite; it moves the heat from the inside to the outside. It is “pumping” the heat to the place you want it. At Casteel Heating and Cooling, we use Trane heat pumps. They have a SEER rating of up to 19.0 and are among the best value in the industry!

For more information, you can speak to one of our team members or you can contact us online.

A tankless water heater is basically a heater that provides hot water in demand. In other words, it doesn’t hold water until you’reCasteel Heating and Cooling ready to use it. At Casteel Heating and Cooling, we recommend Rinnai Tankless Water Heaters. Rinnai covers al the bases from smaller homes in warmer climates to medium or large homes in any climate. They are very efficient, space savers and can save you up to 40% in energy costs! You never run out of hot water if you go with a tankless and they are between 50-70% more effiient than most standard gas or electric heaters. In many cases you can get one or all of the following costs savings: an Energy Star rebate, a Federal Tax credit or even a local utility rebate. If you have additional questions, call us at 770-565-5884 or reach us online.

Do you to spend less money on your electric bills and use less energy? If you answered yes, then you should get a Home Energy Audit.  Several people think that because someone came into their home and changed out the bulbs to CFL’s, installed new shower heads and sealed their windows and doors that they’re good to go. Not so! You need a FULL energy audit to realize big savings. At Casteel Heating and Cooling we perform the following tests in your Home Energy Audit:

  • Insulation R-rating for walls, attic, and foundation
  • Heating and cooling equipment
  • Whole house air leakage (blower door test)
  • Ductwork leakage
  • Electrical and lighting analysis
  • Water heater and water usage
  • Carbon monoxide
  • Flue draft

Knowing the results to these tests allows us to make recommendations for resolving the issues you have and we’ll provide a free quote to you and stay with you every step of the way. We would rather save you money than sell you products and our focus will always be to do right by our clients.

Start saving money today and make that call to our friendly staff at 770-565-5884. We’ll get you on your way to savings ASAP!

Here are some testimonials from satisfied customers…

Neither rain nor sleet nor snow nor ice…

New Heating System

Found Casteel on Kudzu. My AC went out several years ago and now I had no heat last week during the snow/ice storm. They came right out for a heat check. My furnace was almost 25 years old and time to replace. The equipment had to be delivered from another location on icy roads. I had heat the next day. Very happy customer and will use again. Thanks Casteel! Techs: Ben & Larry

SUPERMEN CAST of STEEL

Very satisfied with the service I received today. John and Tim were excellent. Originally they told me the heating/air conditioning system would’nt be finished until tomorrow, they worked into overtime to get the job done. This was not an easy job to do but these young men finished the job in one day. They explained to me what they had done and showed me how to use the sytem. I cant thank these guys enough for their professionalism & willingness to get the job done. I highly recommend not only Casteel but the dynamic duo: John & Tim. Thank You Cynthia McBride

We know a lot of you were trying to get in under the wire for the 201 Energy Tax Credit before the end of last year. The good news? There are energy tax credits again this year. The bad news? They’re pared back form last year.

Most of the same products that were eligible for the 2010 home improvement tax credit are eligible for the 2011 version.  The amounts on most have just been reduced and/or capped.  Some of the eligible products include:

  • Energy efficient doors and windows:  Installation costs are not eligible for the credit. Other restrictions apply. EnergyStar windows have a max of only $200 eligible for the credit
  • Water Heaters: Credit includes installation costs; some restrictions for energy efficiency apply. $300 max credit.
  • Insulation, whether spray foam, fiberglass, or blow-in cellulose: They’re all covered so long as they meet IECC requirements. Installation cost is NOT covered.
  • HVAC components, including advanced air handlers, air force heat pumps, central A/C units, boilers, propane, and gas furnaces: Tax credits include installation costs. $300 limit, and furnaces must now be 95% efficient.
  • Biomass Stoves:  $300 credit limit.
  • Metal and asphalt roofs: Credit doesn’t include installation costs.

According to the government site, some of the tax credits allow you to claim installation costs, while other credits do not.  To find out if your product is included, and whether you can include installation costs, check the government site here.
