Buying a heating and air conditioning system is a hefty investment. We know you want the best quality products as well as the highest quality service. Letting a contractor into your home isn’t a decision to be taken lightly for you and your wallet. We want to make selecting an HVAC professional easy for you. We recommend you fist check the company’s reviews online at Kudzu, then consider the points below recommended by Energy Star.

  • 1. Do Your Research- Research what the license and insurance requirements for HVAC contractors in your state are. You don’t want someone who doesnt meet the requirements! Also, it would be good for you to know what model your current HVAC system is and it’s maintenance history. This way your contactor will be able to better understand your needs.
  • 2. References- Ask the contractor for customer references and simply call and ask them! Make sure you ask the previous customer about the the service or instillation performance and if the contractor stayed on budget and within a timely manner. Customers don’t lie!
  • 3. Referrals- See who your neighbors are using, ask around for some referrals.
  • 4. Special Offers- Like we said, a heating and cooling system is a hefty investment for any homeowner. Ask the contractors if they have any specials or rebates on products.
  • 5. Home Evaluation- Expect a home evaluation. Your HVAC contractor should spend a good deal of time inspecting your home and current system to get a better idea of your needs. If they don’t take the time to inspect your level of insulation, windows and even duct systems they are not doing their job. A good contractor will size the heating and cooling system based on the size of your house and other factors.
  • 6. Get a Signature- Make sure you sign a written proposal with a contractor before they get started. This will protect you by specifying project costs, model numbers, job schedule and warranty information.
  • When you decide to select and HVAC contractor make sure you review the points listed above. You deserve the highest quality in service and products. At Casteel Heating and Cooling we pride ourselves on providing world class service, offering high quality products at affordable prices and backing our work up with exceptional warranties. Good luck on your search!

It’s important to have maintenance done on your HVAC system twice a year. Most people clean their system during the spring and before winter.  Cleaning your system during the spring is the best time to have your HVAC contractor conduct a pre-summer inspection of your system.  The summer months get hot and humid, so it’s important to have your system inspected to ensure it’s working properly.

Listed below are summer HVAC maintenance tips from Kudzu.com:

    • Check thermostat and furnace system controls. This insures that the starting cycle is working properly so you stay comfortable and save energy.
    • Make sure the electrical connections are tightened and lubricate all HVAC moving parts. Loose electrical connections and lack of adequate lubrication reduces the life of the unit components leading to increased energy use.
    • Make sure the condensate drain is working properly. A plugged drain or pipe can cause water damage, and affect the humidity levels in your home.
    • Clean the evaporator and air conditioning coils. Dirty coils can higher your energy bills leading you to spend more money.
    • Check the air conditioner refrigerant level. The wrong level of refrigerant can affect your system efficiency and increase your costs.
    • Make sure the blower components are properly adjusted. Improper blower components can reduce efficiency up to 15 percent.
    • Change air filters regularly to ensure system efficiency.

Do you know what an HVAC contractor should test for when installing new high efficiency equipment? Before investing in a new high efficiency heating and cooling system, you need to make sure you select a contractor that installs equipment based on facts, testing, and science. Unfortunately, many HVAC contractors offer advice on new high efficiency heating and cooling systems based on opinions and guesses. When selecting an HVAC contractor, make sure the contractor meets the minimum criteria listed below:

    • Computerized “Manuel J” Load Calculation – This is a room by room scientific test that will determine the right size equipment for your home.
    • Room by Room Airflow Calculation – This is a scientific measurement of the amount of air coming out of the air vent in each room. This will ensure your new system heats and cools your home evenly.
    • Air Duct Leakage Calculation – The typical duct system in a home leaks 25-40%. The air duct leakage test identifies where the leaks are located so repairs can be made.
    • Air Flow Leakage Reduction Guarantee – Get a written guarantee that the duct system will leak less than 10%, or that they will guarantee 75% less air leakage once the new system is installed.
    • Infiltrometer Blower Door Test – This is a scientific test that measures the level of air leakage in the entire home. Understanding this will help solve high utility bills, unhealthy indoor air, musty odors, excessive dust, humidity issues and hot and cold spots throughout the home.

We conduct extensive research and testing before recommending you the best HVAC unit that fits your needs.  Call us today at 770-565-5884 or contact us online to schedule an appointment today!

Casteel prides itself on it’s customer service and these 5 Star reviews are proof that they can deliver on their promises!

    Happy Customer!!
Well, in this economy the last thing I wanted to do was spend money on my ac, and when I saw the “no cost for freon” Casteel had in their commercial, I assumed (as a person of reasonable intelligence, right?) that there had to be some sort of catch.
Well I am here to tell you that is not the case. While their diagnostic charge was about 5$ more than a larger company I won’t name, I found their prices to be more than fair, and the free freon to more than pay for that 5$.
Additionally, everyone I spoke to at Casteel was a complete delight! From the customer service reps who apparently were actually educated in customer service, to the technician that came out-everyone really cared and gave that “family company” service, which I just feel like some companies have lost that in a misguided effort to be the cheapest. They have a new customer for life!
    And another 5 Star!
    Best around!! Best Value!!
We searched Kudzu and found Casteel, needless to say these guys are great! A few comments left me somewhat skeptical on Kudzu, but after their service I was certain that they are the best. We have two houses and unfortunatley Casteel could not service our East Atlanta home and it cost us a fortune. Casteel came to our home and was not initially able to repair, so they advised me that they would send out another tech (who was better equiped for the system we had). We were fortunate that they did so as any other contracter would have likely charged us to replace our equipment (very expensive i might add) but Casteel sent their best tech and was able to fix it at no additional cost to us. On top of it, they DO NOT charge for freon. If you shop around, you will find that this is very expensive and is a huge cost savings. I would recommend casteel to anyone.
