At Casteel Heating and Cooling, we pride ourselves in providing world class service, high quality products, affordable prices and exceptional warranties. Our customers feel the same – take a look at what they are saying on Kudzu this month!

“Great Service – We invited 6 companies to bid on replacing our air conditioner that was apparently blown out by lightning. I did a lot of research and learned that the installation is a huge part of the system functioning properly and lasting. We decided to go with Casteel due to their reputation and long experience. Our lead installer, Arron, was very friendly and took the time to explain everything and answer our questions. He and Danny were careful to wear “booties” and put down a protective paper pathway to avoid tracking dirt into our house. I feel confident in the system and their installation.”

“Great experience! – Brian was very courteous and took time to review all my options regarding my air unit. I never felt pressure to over purchase and am pleased with the quotes for new AC components. You always hear about scams in this industry but I fully trust Casteel based on the ease of today’s experience. I will use you again and pass this along to all my friends as a GO TO vendor!! Thank you for easing my anxiety regarding a new AC unit!”

“Great Service – My experience with Casteel was great. Their price was almost half the amount that another heating and cooling company wanted to charge. They came out quickly and my repair was done quickly. Wayne and Sean were great.”

“Beyond Impressed… The entire Casteel team is phenomenal. When my upstairs A/C unit went out, I called a few contractors to get estimates. My sales rep Chris really took the time to educate me on my system and made several recommendations that were extremely valuable. I felt like I was truly getting what I needed at a fair price. Compared to the other estimates I received, Casteel not only offered the most, but came in the least expensive.
Larry & Mike did an amazing job on the install. They kept me fully informed the entire way, were courteous and professional, and even managed to avoid cutting a hole in my walls (which I was fully anticipating based on the way my system runs through my house). I was beyond impressed with the Casteel experience, and I’ll never look for another provider other than Casteel again!”

“Always the Best Service – Just had our original Builders Air Conditioner and Furnace replaced with Casteel’s Trane unit and couldn’t be happier. The techs Chris and Michael arrived on time and promptly completed the work. They were very informative and courteous and left the premises spotless. I would never consider anyone but Casteel for my heating and cooling needs.”

We want to thank all of our customers for your support! Casteel Heating and Cooling would not be a success without all of you. Thanks for choosing us when it comes to your heating and air conditioning needs.

Programmable thermostats allow your home to maintain pre-set temperature levels that are customized to your personal comfort levels. They are typically more convenient, aw well as more accurate, than manual thermostats, and can help cut-down on energy bills.

Most homes will see the return on a programmable thermostat investment in about one year. When used correctly, programmable thermostats can help you save about $150 each year. The programming allows you to set the thermostat so that it is only in use when you are at home, cutting down on unnecessary air conditioner use and energy use.

The program feature is perfect for homeowners who are not at home during the day and have a varied schedule on the weekend. They can be personalized to your schedule, so that the temperature adjusts in the morning when you wake up, at night when you go to sleep, or during the day while you are away.

Programmable thermostats automatically store scheduled settings and repeat them on a daily basis. Most programmable thermostats offer a full week’s worth of scheduling, so you can set a different schedule for each day of the week and weekends. They can also be manually set, so that you can override the programming at your convenience.

The scheduling allowed with programmable thermostats gives you the convenience of never having to worry about turning your AC off before you leave the home or on when you return. It also provides the convenience of having the temperature set at a point that is comfortable for you and your family.

And, not only are they easy to use, they’re also easy on the eye. With an attractive, streamlined design, our thermostats will fit beautifully into any home’s décor.

If you would like to make the switch to a programmable thermostat, please contact us or reach out to us on our Facebook or Twitter pages.

Last month we told you some things to look for that would indicate that your HVAC system needs attention from a specialist. However, a quick fix isn’t always the answer – sometimes the best action is to replace your system entirely. Replacing your system can seem like a large cost upfront, but a new, more efficient system will save you more money over time by reducing your energy bill and minimizing the need for maintenance and repair. Energy Star offers a check-list of signs that indicate that a system needs to be replaced.

The age of your system is a solid indicator of when it will need to be replaced.  Talk to a professional about replacing your system if

  • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
  • Your air conditioner or heat pump is more than 10 years old.

Some signs that you system needs to be replaced are obvious and easy to spot, and occur from daily use, such as:

  • Uneven temperature throughout the home; some rooms are too hot while others are too cold.
  • Your cooling or heating system is excessively noisy.
  • Your energy bills start to increase suddenly.
  • Your equipment needs frequent repairs.

You can also spot a system that’s on its way out by some factors that may seem less obvious:

  • Your home is exceptionally dusty, which could be caused by leaky ducts.
  • Your home has problems with keeping a consistent humidity; faulty equipment and leaky duct work can cause air to be too humid in the summer or too dry in the winter.

Let us know if you have noticed any of these signs in your home or if you any questions about upgrading or replacing your system. You can also reach out to us on Facebook or Twitter.

Proper maintenance is one of the most important things you can do in order to keep your AC system in proper working condition, and a major part of that is keeping your air filters clean. Air filters should be cleaned or replaced once a month during peak season to ensure proper performance.

Follow these steps to clean or replace your air filters:

1. Figure out whether your system is a forced air system or a furnace system. In forced air systems, the filter will be located over the vent where the air comes from. In furnace systems, the filter is attached to HVAC unit directly.

2. Sweep or vacuum the floor to remove and dust or dirt surrounding the filter.

3. Turn the system off before you touch the filter.

4. If your system is concealed, you will need to pop or slide open the panel door.

5. On an AC unit, you will be able to slide the filter our. On a regular forced air system, the filter can be easily removed.

6. The size of the filter should be printed on the frame – if the filter is disposable, write down the measurements and purchase a new filter from a hardware store. Go to step 9.

7. If the filter is replaceable, take the filter out and move it to a solid, clean surface outside. Spray it down thoroughly with water, but doo not use detergents, as this can cause dirt stick to the filters.

8. Leave the filter outside to dry.

9. Use arrows and guidelines to put the filter back in properly.

Remember that your unit should be inspected by a professional on a yearly basis. If you have any questions, please contact us or reach out to us on our Facebook or Twitter pages.

There are certain signs that indicate that it’s time to call an HVAC specialist. If you begin to have any of the following problems, call Casteel Air right away to make an appointment:

  • Your HVAC is making strange noises.
  • Ice is forming on the HVAC unit or lines.
  • There is water puddling around your exterior unit.
  • Your HVAC is not cooling or heating all areas of your home sufficiently.
  • The system runs for hours at a time.
  • Your home is taking longer to cool down or heat up.
  • Your utility bills have been rising for no obvious reason.
  • Your system is more than a decade old.

Ignoring these problems, or “waiting for them to go away,” can cause serious damage to your HVAC system. Let us know if you have been experiencing any of these symptoms or if any questions about your system. You can also reach out to us on Facebook or Twitter.

Thanks guys! You are the best!!!”

“Got timely install of new A/C. My installer Chris H was neat and efficient. Could not be happier.”

“I recently had to replace a stolen AC unit. Chris M., Design Consultant for Casteel, assessed what I needed and was able to schedule an install with a comparable unit. Arron H and Chris H who installed my new AC were professional, efficient and neat–cleaning up and being thorough about the entire job. I have been a Casteel customer for 8 years and appreciate their high quality customer service.”

“I highly recommend Casteel. The service technician was thorough, explaining everything he was doing. He answered every question I had, showed me the defective part on my A/C unit, and why it was defective. The same part on my other unit had fallen just below the recommended rating – he explained that I could still use it but it may need to be replaced in the near future (I did replace it). Overall, I am very satisfied with the experience and would use Casteel again without hesitation.”

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that air conditioners weren’t always around, but the creation of air conditioners allowed so many advances in society that we don’t often recognize. For instance, did you know…

  1. The modern air conditioner was invented in 1902 by Willis Carrier, not for personal comfort, but for a publishing company. The AC kept temperature and humidity low too keep the paper from expanding and contracting
  2. Movie theaters were early adopters of air conditioning. Summer blockbuster exist because people would flock to the air conditioned movie theaters to escape the summer heat.
  3. Air conditioning has changed the way houses are built. High ceilings and large windows that allowed breeze to sweep through the home are no longer needed now that central air can cool all areas of the house.
  4. Air conditioning has helped increase life expectancy and advances in medicine. Hospitals with AC helped allowed advances in surgery, decreased infant mortality rate, inhibited bacteria, and help defeat malaria.
  5. AC has revolutionized many other industries besides medicine: the manufacture of computers and chipsets; data storage centers; the production, delivery, and storage of food; pharmaceutical manufacturing; and chemical manufacturing.

It’s amazing how important air conditioning has become in our daily lives. If you have any questions about your air conditioner, let us know! You can also talk to us on Facebook and Twitter.

Odors increase with temperature, and with the temperature in Georgia rising, you may start noticing some unpleasant smells around your home. It doesn’t happen that often, but when it does happen, it’s something that you can’t ignore. Follow these steps if you notice unpleasant odors in your home:

  1. Look for the source of the smell. The cause may be a dead animal or a mess that was left uncleaned. In this type of situation, if you get rid of the source, the smell should also quickly disparate.
  2. Check your air filter. If your filter is dirty, it may be the cause of the odor. Replace your filter, or wash it if it is reusable.
  3. Check the condensation drain line and rain pan for stagnant water and mold. If the pan or drain line needs to be cleaned, you can do so with bleach and hot water. Remember to make sure that they are fully dry before putting them back in place.
  4. If none of the steps above remove the odor, consider having your entire unit cleaned. There may be an issue in a spot that you cannot access.

Remember that your unit should be inspected by a professional on a yearly basis. If you have any questions, please contact us or reach out to us on our Facebook or Twitter pages.

Marietta lucked out last night when Tropical Storm Debby decided to change her path and head farther east; however, hurricane season is long from over and it’s important to storm-proof your air conditioning system before any major storm in order to keep it in its best condition.

Tropical storms and hurricanes often cause power outages and substantial property damage such as flooding, fallen trees, or breaking outdoor furniture. There are, however, a few simple steps you can take to protect your AC system from harm before a hurricane or tropical storm arrives:

  1. Turn off your air conditioning system before the storm arrives.
  2. Remove any window units or duct systems that exhaust through windows, and seal up windows tight.
  3. Put a tarp over your outside unit to protect from rain and debris.
  4. Secure the unit in place with hurricane straps, if necessary, to keep it stable in high winds.

After the storm, do not immediately turn your AC system back on. You should inspect the outdoor unit to make sure that the surrounding area is clear of debris and that the unit is fully, properly functional.

If your unit does experience some damage, make an appointment with a professional to inspect and repair the unit before you turn it back on.
